Weekly Run: Dewpie’s Dash

This week’s Dewpie’s Dash results are in and it was a little slower going this week than last. I felt really good in the first two miles but in the third mile had a tougher time getting up the hill and coasting back down the major hill leading into the 3 mile marker. This week I finished the race with a time of 24:51 or 7:39/miles for the 3.25 mile course.

Colonial Summer Series Raynham – Dewpie’s Dash

Monday night it was off to the neighboring town of Raynham, Massachusetts for the Colonial Summer Series Monday night fun run, more commonly known as Dewpie’s Dash. This race takes place each and every Monday and is a 3.25 mile course through residential roads of Raynham. The course is a moderately tough stretch with a little bit of uphill climbing throughout the run and a spectacular downhill stretch leading into the 3rd mile marker.

The race is sponsored by the Colonial Road Runners and each week costs you just $2. The race is timed and post-race there is water, Gatorade, watermelon and from time to time an adult beverage might even casually be available. It is a great routine to get into during the summer to race yourself each week and to catch up with the runners who make the race each week.

This week I ran Dewpie’s Dash in 24:33 or 7:33/miles. Look forward to many more this summer!

Monday Night Fun Run and 50 Mile Bike Ride on Cape Cod

ImageThis past Monday night it was over to Raynham, Massachusetts for the Colonial Road Runners Summer Series 3.25 mile race. This $2 gem of a race is a nice weekly check in and the running conditions this past Monday were absolutely perfect.

The run kicked off pretty quick for me and I felt good heading through the first mile. Making my way toward the 2nd mile I continued to feel pretty strong heading up the climbing hill mixed into the course. I was able to push it quite nicely on Monday night and ended with a finishing time of 23:55, good for 7:22/miles.

On Friday it was great to take the day off from work and head down to Wellfleet, Massachusetts for a nice 50 mile bike ride with friends from the Thirsty Irish Running Club. We parked at The Beachcomber in Wellfleet and made our way toward the beginning of the Cape Cod Rail Trail entrance about 2.5 miles down the road. The Cape Cod Rail Trail is a predominantly flat path (don’t get me wrong, there are a couple of hills mixed in) that is paved and brings bikers, runners and walkers through towns such as Orleans, Dennis and Eastham on Cape Cod. The weather was a bit overcast for most of the ride with some showers taking place throughout the morning but fortunately we were able to get all 50 miles in before the skies really opened up.

It was nice to be able to mix in some biking for a change and thanks to my parents for keeping the kiddos for the day to make it possible! A little bit of cross training on the bike certainly woke up some muscles not ordinarily used along the running paths so it was good to mix things up a bit.

After the 50 mile ride, refueling was certainly in order at The Beachcomber and the Cisco Brewery Whale’s Tail Pale Ale and a clam strip roll was the perfect combination to end a good day.

CRR Summer Fun Run Series

Thanks to Joe Gillis and his team of volunteers from the Colonial Road Runners for putting on last night’s CRR Summer Fun Run Series in Raynham. The weekly Monday night run is a 3.25 mile course that each week allows runners to race against themselves to see the improvements that can be made over the course of the summer. About 90 runners showed up for last night’s run which is hands down the best bargain around costing only $2 per week which includes the timed race, water, Gatorade and even a beer post-race.

Last night certainly felt like summer was upon us with the temperature in the 70’s and humidity at 90%.

I finished last night’s CRR Summer Fun Run Series with a time of 24:43 or 7:36/mile.

2nd Place Overall Finish at CRR Winter Fun Run in Raynham

Image

This morning it was basically around the corner to the Colonial Road Runners Winter Fun Run in Raynham, Massachusetts. The 4 mile run is held Sunday mornings at 9AM and is on a moderately challenging rolling course. The temperature at race time today was an unseasonable 50 degrees, however the wind was absolutely whipping and was quite tough to contend with.

As I made my way toward the first mile I noticed, “Wow, there is no one in front of me.” Finally a runner came up alongside me and took the lead and served as my pace car until he ran out of sight. But even as I kept on running along I noticed, “Wow, there is no one right behind me” and kept chugging along. It is a different feeling serving as your own pace and at a few times the mind games of slowing, stopping or sprinting were almost unavoidable.

As I made my way up a large hill leading back down to the final mile the wind was blowing directly in my face and getting up the hill seemed almost impossible. My body felt as though I weighed 900 pounds and my legs felt as though no matter how much I pumped they would not move. The wind was some of the strongest I can recall running in and it knocked the wind out of your breath and was a force to be reckoned with.

I finished the CRR Winter Fun Run with a time of 30:52 good for 7:43/miles. I ended up finishing in 2nd place overall in the race and in my book, 2nd place is 2nd place!
