10 Mile Training Run on the Lexington Battle Road

BR2011a

Today was a cold December morning and it was off to Lexington, MA for a 10 mile training run along the Lexington Battle Road with some fellow Thirsty Irish Runners. We hit the trail at 9AM which allowed us to get in 10 miles before the freezing rain of New England worked its way in later in the day.

The Battle Road is a great, historic trail that maps out the path the British soldiers took in the American Revolution which ultimately led to the famous battle on Lexington Green. One of the fellow runners mentioned today that “these woods have a lot of ghosts  was in them” and thinking about all of the soldiers who fought along the way certainly was easy to picture.

The Battle Road consists of compacted dirt which makes the running a bit easier on the legs and makes for a really enjoyable course. There are a couple of hills mixed into the course and since you head out and back you get to enjoy both sides of them. The Battle Road had a good mix of runners, walkers and even a couple of bikers today. A group of folks walking their greyhounds, about 50 in total, made me glad I left the bunny rabbit suit at home today.

If you are looking for an amazing place to log some miles, I highly recommend the Lexington Battle Road course. Let me know if you are heading there sometime and I will meet you there!
